Welcome to the 2018-19 school year!
2017-18 school year was a stellar year of academic excellence, extra-curricular honours and community fundraising. Many of our students and teams excelled not only at the regional level but also at the provincial, national and international level. Our students raised over $50,000 through community building events such as Relay for Life and Fast For Freedom. As we begin a new year, we look forward to continuing the excellence in program and success that our WCI Vikings have and will continue to experience.
Our staff and students are committed to our Mission Statement:
“To Value Diversity, Work Towards Excellence and Inspire a Passion for Living”
This is clearly evident in the magnet programs that we offer: Strings, Extended French and English Language Learners program. We are excited to be adding the English Literacy Development (ELD) magnet program to WCI’s breadth of student programming. We continue to offer both the pre-AP (Advanced Placement) and AP courses to our students as well as the opportunity for students to write the AP examinations in early May.
Besides possessing an extremely strong Academic program, our focus on Activities, Arts and Athletics allow us to ensure a rich high school experience for all of our students. A wide variety of clubs and teams are available and we encourage all of our students to increase their enjoyment of high school by joining in these opportunities.
For all of our incoming Grade 9s and our new registrants, we encourage you to be involved in the school – embrace all the opportunities to experience academic success and participate in the wide assortment of school activities – these will provide rich experiences and lasting memories during your high school years.
To WCI parents/guardians, your involvement in your student’s education is important. As a school, we encourage and value communication between the parent/guardian, student and teacher. Feel free to contact your student’s teacher and/or vice-principal if you have questions or concerns. In addition, joining WCI’s School Council is another way to be further involved in your child’s school. For more details, check out the School Council quick link on the WCI website homepage.
Looking forward to another fantastic year with the staff and students of WCI.
