June marks the beginning of Pride month. The Pride flag will be raised at WCI by members of our Administration team and GSA support staff in a small ceremony observing Public Health safety directions. The flag will fly for the entire month of June. Many of our community will remember that our Pride Week celebration was highlighted by the school board last year. Although we cannot gather en masse again this year, we want our students and families to know that everyone is welcome and belongs at WCI. Here is a link to the article from last year.
Typically the month of June is filled with celebrations of our year, both formal and informal. We would still like to acknowledge and celebrate the success that we had, and invite you to follow along with us online – Instagram and Twitter @WCIinfo. Summary posts will be made each Friday highlighting the week’s winners on our WCI Website. I encourage everyone to subscribe to the website using the “Stay Connected” option in the footer on our main page wci.wrdsb.ca This way any news posted to our main site will go directly to your inbox.
Week Of June 1 – We will be highlighting our Athletics
Week of June 8 – We will be highlighting our Arts
Week of June 15 – Celebrating with our Grads
We know everyone is anxious to collect the belongings they have left at school. The WRDSB is working closely with Public Health so that all students will be able to enter the school and empty their lockers. We do not have specifics yet, but we will begin to arrange for students to pick up belongings and return school resource materials the week of June 15. The process will be following strict guidelines set out by the Region of Waterloo Public Health. Please do NOT come to the school on June 15. We will send out additional messaging with instructions before that time.
For our graduates…
We have ordered signs for our graduating students to display inside, or outside, your homes It is our hope that you will be able to pick them up when you come to the school to empty your locker and drop off any school resources during the week of June 15. We are waiting to do this as one visit, as we are very aware that as a community we should still be limiting our non-essential trips and having you come to the building multiple times does not achieve that goal. As well, we want you to know that although we had hoped you would be the first June commencement for WCI, we have begun planning for a Fall commencement on Nov. 6th. It is our hope that it will be safe and we will be permitted to run Commencement for you on that alternate date. You will need to stay connected to the WCI website to ensure you have current information as your school email address will stop working once you graduate.
