Updated information regarding the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) and the graduation requirement has come from the Ministry of Education.
***The literacy graduation requirement will be WAIVED FOR ALL STUDENTS GRADUATING DURING THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR ONLY!***
This announcement means that students graduating in 2020-2021:
- do NOT need to have passed the OSSLT (OSS Literacy Test),
- do NOT need to have taken the OSSLC (Literacy Course), and,
- if students haven’t passed the OSSLT, do NOT need an adjudication process started, if they haven’t passed the OSSLT nor taken the OSSLC.
NOTE: The waiving of the literacy graduation requirement applies to this year’s GRADUATING STUDENTS ONLY!
If you will NOT be graduating this year, you will still be required to met the literacy requirements by either passing the OSSLT (test) or OSSLC (course). The OSSLT is still scheduled for Spring 2021 for grade 10’s and other students that still need to meet the literacy requirement.
REMINDER: The Ministry of Education has also changed the COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS requirement for 2020-2021 GRADUATING STUDENTS ONLY to 20 HOURS (not the previous required 40 hours). There is also more flexibility in terms of what counts as community service hours. Please contact your guidance counsellor with any questions.
