Instructional support days are designed to provide a mid-semester opportunity for students to catch up on missing work, submit work and receive direct individual support from their classroom teachers.

There are five such days each semester, with two that take place roughly in mid-semester and three that are placed at the end of each semester – these days have replaced the traditional exam days that were at the end of each semester.

Student Attendance:

  • On the instructional support days, the vast majority of our students will not attend in person but will work from home to complete any remaining evaluations asynchronously, or attend any drop-in support sessions or conferences synchronously.
    • If students connect with their teachers in any way, they will be marked as present.  (ie., submits work, logs into the online classroom, sends an email, or responds to a Google form tracking attendance.  Our attendance secretaries will then enter “Excused – Learn from Home”.
    • If the student does not show any signs of engagement through synchronous or asynchronous activity, they should be marked as “Absent”
  • ACE students and students in other congregated Priority 1 Programs will attend school with regular programming.

What will students be doing from home?

The answer will vary depending on how the student is progressing to date, and what work they have not completed, but could include:

  • Reviewing the material in the course so far and making study notes
  • A virtual help session with their teacher to ask questions
  • Completing missed school work and submitting it
  • Reading course materials they may have missed
  • Getting virtual help from a support staff member (Special Education, Student Success, Child and Youth Worker, Social Worker, Guidance Counselor) without losing class time
  • Conferencing with their subject teacher virtually to discuss their progress
  • Completing an extension on a project or task
  • Developing questions they have for their teacher on the work to date
