With increased global measles activity and recent travel-related cases of measles in Ontario, Region of Waterloo Public Health recommends that anyone planning to travel over March Break should ensure that they are protected against measles. Measles vaccines are a vaccine required under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, and parents have been notified if their children are not up-to-date with their immunizations as part of our enforcement this year.

Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) and Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (MMRV) vaccines are safe and protect against measles.
Two doses of the MMR vaccine is recommended for travellers born in 1970 or later.
In Ontario, children get their first dose of MMR vaccine at one year old, and their second dose, as MMRV, at 4-6 years old.
Infants 6-11 months of age can be vaccinated early if travelling to certain areas.
Adults born before 1970 who are unsure if they had measles or were vaccinated can get an MMR dose.
