On both Thursday, April 3rd and Friday April 4th the following student groups will be writing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test:

  1. All first time eligible grade 10 students
  2. Multilingual learners in ESLEOI classes 
  3. Previously eligible students who have not yet written the test or who have not yet been successful. 

Students must successfully complete this literacy requirement in order to be granted their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. All sessions of the OSSLT will be on regular school days, with a regular schedule for all other students.

All students who are supported by Individual Education Plans (IEPs) have received the opportunity to meet with their Special Education Resource Teacher to discuss their writing location and accommodations for the test. 

Key Dates to Note:

  • Thursday, March 27th: Teachers will share resources via Google Classroom to help students prepare for the OSSLT.  Resources will also be posted in their online platforms such as Google Classroom.
    Friday, March 28th: Students will complete a practice version of the OSSLT during their assigned time and in their writing location.

  • Thursday, April 3rd (Session A) & Friday, April 4th (Session B) – OFFICIAL OSSLT TEST DAYS
    • All students writing are to go to their assigned writing location. 
    • Writing sessions are designed to take 65 to 75 minutes, but students are allowed to use up to double time on both days to complete each session.
    • They will have approved absences from their class(es).

  • Friday, April 11th: Day for students who were absent to write or finish the OSSLT

How can I help my student prepare for the OSSLT?

Before the Test:

  • Encourage your student to view the information video and participate in preparation offered by the school.
  • Review EQAOntario’s video 
  • Encourage your student to review the format of the test and the tools available by previewing the practice test available here.

The Test Days:

    • Remind your student to be on time to their assigned writing location.
  • Ensure your student has a fully charged and working WRDSB Chromebook.
  • NOTE: the test will not work on any other computer. If your child is having a problem with their school Chromebook, please have them reach out to a classroom teacher, or fill out the Chromebook repair form
  • Ensure your student has their Chromebook charger. 
  • Encourage students to reread and check their work before submitting their test.
  • Some students may want to bring a mouse or headphones so that they can utilize accessibility features of the test.
  • Encourage your student to give their best effort. .
