Pre-Advanced Placement Program
The Pre-AP Program at Waterloo Collegiate is a set of academic skills, strategies and content used to build rigorous curricula, prepare students for success in senior Advanced Placement courses, increase academic challenges, promote independent learning and expose students to assessment techniques useful for success at university. Pre-AP is not a prescribed curriculum but rather an enriched experience to enhance current curriculum standards.
Acceptance Into Pre-AP Courses
Grade 9: Students entering Grade 9 Pre-AP courses are accepted based on the recommendation by the feeder school staff and WCI Faculty Committee. The students recommended by the Grade 8 feeder school must meet the Pre-AP Student Profile. Application deadline for equal consideration is Friday, January 18, 2019. All other applicants will be wait listed. Applications are submitted via an online “Pre-AP Application Google Form” available at the bottom of the page.

Grade 10: Grade 9 students meeting the Pre-AP student profile and wishing to take a Grade 10 Pre-AP course must apply on-line. The application process will be discussed at the AP Assembly on Wed. April 25th. On-line applications will be open from the end of April to early May. Pre-AP applications will be reviewed by a WCI Faculty Committee. Applicants can confirm their application status by the end of May on MyWay. Application deadline for equal consideration is Thu. May 3rd. All other applicants will be wait listed and considered later in the year.
Grade 11: Grade 10 students meeting the Pre-AP student profile and wishing to take a Grade 11 Pre-AP course must apply on-line. The application process will be discussed at the AP Assembly on April 25th. On-line applications will be open from April 25 to May 3. The Pre-AP applications will be reviewed by a WCI Faculty Committee. Applicants can confirm their application status by the end of May on MyWay. Application deadline for equal consideration will be Thu. May 3rd. All other applicants will be wait listed and considered later in the year.
*Non-WCI students are asked to have their current subject teacher complete the Pre-AP Teacher Reference Form (below) and submit with registration documents.
Do You Need to take Pre-AP Courses to Enrol in AP Courses?
Although not a requirement, students wishing to take AP courses are encouraged to register for Pre-AP courses. Students in the Pre-AP courses will work on specific skills, study strategies, test taking strategies and content that will prepare them for the rigor of the senior AP Courses.

- Demonstrates academic excellence in the chosen subject area (achieves over 85%)
- Displays an excellent command of spoken and written language
- Has a well-established work ethic and the willingness to work hard
- Is enthusiastic, self-directed and capable of handling the accelerated pace of learning
- Enjoys being challenged
- Possesses curiosity about the subject of study
- Demonstrates an intellectual curiosity over a broad range of interests
- Enjoys involvement in the extracurricular life of the school and shows a willingness to assume leadership

WCI’s AP faculty team STRONGLY recommends the following limits for courses:
- Pre-Advanced Placement – 3 courses
- Advanced Placement – 2 courses
If you wish for an exemption to our Pre-AP course limit policy please complete and sign the AP Exemption Letter and return it to the Guidance Office by Thu. May 3rd, 2018.
2019-2020 Grade 09
Applications must be forwarded to WCI Guidance Department no later than Friday, January 18th, 2019. Please note Pre-AP decisions will be communicated directly to parent/guardian by e-mail by Mon. February 4th, 2019. Acceptance of your offer of admission to Pre-AP MUST be received by Friday, February 8th, 2019. Link to “Pre-AP Application Google Form” will be posted live as of Wednesday, January 9th, 2019.

The on-line application process will be discussed at the AP Assembly on Tue. Apr. 25th (Block B). The on-line application link will be available at the bottom of this page or the home page. Pre-AP applications will be reviewed by a WCI Faculty Committee. Application deadline for equal consideration is Thu. May 3rd. Decisions will be available on MyWay by the end of May.
Non WCI students can use the Teacher Reference application below and forward the completed application to the WCI Guidance Department along with your registration documents. Please complete one application form for each course.
