The Classics Club at WCI is fun, dynamic and enthusiastic about the ancient world. It is an opportunity for students of Latin and Classical Civilizations to enrich their study through activities and excursions that focus on Graeco-Roman Civilization.

certamen

certamen is a “Reach for the Top” style competition played in teams of 4. Each team member usually focuses on one of the following four areas of study: Latin vocabulary & derivatives, Roman Life, Roman History, Classical Mythology. The date of our next competition is Thursday October 24, 2019 and will be hosted by North Toronto Collegiate Institute & the St. Clements School.

National Junior Classical League Classical Etymology Exam

The National Classical Etymology Exam (NCEE) is designed to test a student’s ability to handle both Latin and Greek derivatives and their usage in the English language. This online exam takes place on Monday November 18, 2019 in Rm 221.

National Junior Classical League Roman Civilization Exam

The National Roman Civilization Exam (NRCE) is designed to test a student’s knowledge of ancient Roman Society. This online exam takes place in February.

National Junior Classical League National Latin Vocabulary Exam

The National Latin Vocabulary Exam (NLVE) is designed to test a student’s knowledge of Latin vocabulary and is based solely on specific lists of Latin vocabulary relevant to a particular student’s level of Latin. This online exam will take place in March.

Medusa Mythology Exam

The Medusa Mythology Exam is an international exam based on a theme. This year’s theme is “Family Feuds”. This exam will take place in April.

Ontario Student Classics Conference

The Ontario Student Classics Conference (OSCC) is an annual province-wide conference, which takes place at Brock University in St. Catharines. It brings together students of Latin, Ancient Greek and Classical Civilizations where they compete in a variety of competitions in Academics, Athletics and Creative Arts. This year’s hosts are Centennial Collegiate & Vocational School and Waterloo Collegiate Institute, who have chosen the theme: plus insciens quis fecit quam prudens boni … A person has done more good unknowingly than knowingly. The conference will take place May 7-10, 2020.
